Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Lancashire (Hybrid)

Salary: £60,000-£70,000

Reports to: Finance Director

The Role

Supporting the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take ownership of management accounts and accounts payable. This is a hands-on, high-impact role, ideal for a second time mover or technically strong accountant with solid experience in financial controls. You will oversee day-to-day finance operations while providing meaningful financial insight to influence business decisions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and variance analysis
  • Ensure accurate and timely reconciliations, journals and financial reporting
  • Maintain strong financial controls, processes and procedures
  • Provide financial insight and analysis to support the Finance Director and SLT
  • Produce monthly cost centre reporting for the Board and SLT and support effective cost management
  • Manage a small finance team across management accounts and accounts payable
  • Oversee accounts payable, ensuring accurate payments, approvals and controls
  • Support budgeting and forecasting, including rolling forecasts and the annual budget
  • Lead the annual audit and liaise with external auditors
  • Review monthly payroll reports, ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries, pensions etc
  • Maintain robust banking controls, including user access and authorisation levels

 

About You

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and proven experience in maintaining effective financial controls
  • Demonstrable experience preparing management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory financial reporting
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a consistently high level of accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and provide financial insight to support decision making
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Power BI (or similar reporting tools) experience
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks and effectively coordinate multiple workstreams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information with senior stakeholders
  • Experience managing a small finance team

Desirable

  • Experience within a professional services/LLP environment
  • Experience using budgeting, forecasting or financial planning systems
  • Previous experience managing or overseeing accounts payable processes
